In the region of Papua, today, an earthquake of a strong magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred, reported Indonesian seismologists. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. This happened in an area that is often subjected to similar events due to complex geological structures.

At the same time, scientists from the USA recorded an earthquake of magnitude 6.6 off the eastern coasts of New Guinea. They clarified that there is no tsunami threat. The epicenter was located at a depth of 51 kilometers and 123.2 kilometers from the nearest populated point. Local authorities assess the damage from the event and do not announce a possible tsunami threat.
